While real estate prices tend to be slightly higher in Girdwood then they are in some of the other parts of Alaska, the advantages that you get by living there is more than worth it. Part of this is because you are so close to the Alyeska Resort but it is also because of how the real estate in Girdwood is laid out – along the beautiful landscape of the Chugach State Park. The town of Girdwood is about forty miles from Anchorage and the drive to the city is about as beautiful of drive as you could want. Most people commute to Anchorage for work, but as Girdwood is such a popular tourist location there are many seasonal jobs as well.

Recreation By Girdwood Homes

Girdwood began as a gold rush town at the beginning of the 1900’s. It was a supply camp for the mines that were being dug there and the original name of the town was Glacier City, because of the glaciers that are present there. You can tour the trails that lead to these glaciers now, as there are seven that are easily accessible right at the front gate of the Chugach Mountains.

Some of the other activities that are popular in Girdwood including biking through the trails that are laid throughout the beautiful forests and wilderness. You can also take tours by jeep as well as by three or four wheeler. Many people enjoy kayaking and rafting as well as visiting the Crow Creek Gold Mine and trying their hand at gold panning. This town not only has great properties for sale, it is also known for some of the great community events that happen there like the Blueberry Festival and the Girdwood Forest Fair.
