Discover Palmer Homes For Sale

Homes for sale in Palmer give people that move into them terrific priced houses, but also the chance to have a wonderful lifestyle in this rural area. Palmer is well-known for many things, but one of them is the Alaska State Fair, which is held for twelve full days and has been going since 1936.

The fair offers attendees so many things to do including a real Alaska rodeo, livestock shows and prizes, concerts and live music and one of the most looked-forward to events in Alaska – the giant cabbage weighing. There have been two world records for cabbage weight set there in the past. Palmer is also a record holder in many other vegetables like kale, broccoli, turnips and more so there must be something in the soil.

Another attraction offered by the city is the Palmer Museum of History and Art, a very popular place for residents from all over Alaska to visit. The Church of a Thousand Trees is also a well-known tourist attraction. Many of the residents that live in Palmer work there but more commute a short distance to Wasilla or Anchorage..

Palmer Realty In The Past

The real estate in Palmer first began to be popular at the start of the Great Depression. There were around two hundred families – mostly farmers – living in Alaska after migrating from the Midwest. They were taking advantage of the New Deal relief program instituted by FDR. The farmers thought they might have trouble with agriculture at first, but it turned out that the glacial soil and the air made it perfect for farming. These days, Palmer produces three-quarters of the state’s agricultural crop. During summer, crops in Palmer can get as much as twenty hours or sunlight, and that could be why they are able to grow such huge vegetables.

Around Palmer Properties And Beyond

Palmer is alongside the Matanuska River, and the Mat-Su region bears the name as a result. The Glenn Highway is nearby and is the road to Anchorage, just a fifty-five minute drive from Palmer. There is also Hatcher Pass nearby, less than fifteen miles away, where you gain entrance to the Independence Mine State Park and the history of the area celebrated and preserved. There are more than sixteen buildings that are left over and have been cared for from the gold rush days of Alaska. Another feature of Palmer is the Musk Ox Farm, which has the only domestic herd of Musk Ox. It is a great place for adults and kids alike to visit.
