Sitka is also a popular place for couples to hold their wedding. The views are probably the main reason why. There are incredible landscapes made by the bodies of water on the shores of Sitka and the sights, sounds and smells of the bay and the ocean itself is very relaxing and romantic. There are small islands nearby and the Tongass rainforest as well as the views of Mt. Edgecumbe, which is an inactive volcano that is located on Kruzof Island.

Culture And History in Sitka, Alaska

Sitka has had a great history and it has created a very unique identify for the town. The best proof of this comes in the collective preservation and celebration of the Sitkan culture. Throughout the town, you can find 24 attractions that are on the National Register of Historic Places, which is one-fourth of the register located in the entire state of Alaska. When Sitka began it was the capital of the then Russian-owned America until the United States bought it in 1867. However, there was still a lot of history before Russia colonized the region, especially from the Tingit people who were native to the region. Some of the historic places in Sitka include St. Michael’s Cathedral, Sitka national Historic Park and the Russian Bishop’s House.
